Toner And Ink Cartridge Recycling In The Bay Area

Used printer cartridges have a way of piling up in supply closets, copy rooms, storage bins, and desk drawers. A few empty ink cartridges become a box. A few toner cartridges from office printers become a shelf. Eventually, someone has to deal with them properly.

GreenCitizen accepts toner and ink cartridges for recycling through our Burlingame EcoCenter and Bay Area business electronics pickup service. We accept all kinds of cartridges — inkjet, laser toner, copier toner, drum units, waste toner boxes, and more — at $1.00 per pound.

Cartridges are also commonly cleared out alongside printers, computers, monitors, phones, and other office electronics. We can handle all of it through the same service request.

Toner And Ink Cartridge Recycling Pricing

Toner and ink cartridge recycling costs $1.00 per pound.

We weigh cartridges at intake — at the EcoCenter counter or as part of a business pickup load — to calculate the recycling fee.

Because individual cartridges are light, the fee is usually modest for small loads. For offices and organizations clearing out a supply closet, copy room, or accumulated bin of mixed cartridges, the total weight adds up more meaningfully, and pricing is calculated the same way regardless of volume.

Toner and ink cartridges do not qualify for free recycling and do not count toward the free business pickup minimum.

What Items Are Free To Recycle At GreenCitizen?

Not every item we accept has a recycling fee. While toner and ink cartridges are priced at $1.00 per pound, several high-volume electronics can be recycled with us at no charge.

Free-to-recycle items include:

This matters in practice. If you’re clearing a printer room that also has old computers, monitors, or networking equipment, we can take everything in one load. The qualifying electronics recycle free; the cartridges are priced by weight.

Toner And Ink Cartridge Recycling Options At GreenCitizen

Option 1: Business Recycling Pickup

For offices, schools, and organizations that have accumulated enough cartridge volume — or are clearing out a printer room, supply closet, or storage area that includes other electronics — business pickup lets us come to you.

This works particularly well when cartridges are part of a broader cleanout rather than the only item. If your load includes qualifying electronics alongside cartridges, list everything in the pickup request so we can review the full inventory and plan accordingly.

Common business pickup scenarios:

      • Office supply closet or copy room cleanouts, especially during moves or renovations
      • Printer and copier replacement projects where associated cartridge stock also needs to go
      • School and nonprofit supply cleanups that include both consumables and equipment
      • Property management collections covering mixed office electronics across multiple suites
      • Ongoing cartridge accumulation that has reached a volume worth scheduling pickup for

How It Works:

      1. Complete the pickup request form
      2. Place loose cartridges in boxes, bags, or bins before collection day
      3. Stage items at a loading dock, ground-level area, or elevator-accessible location
      4. Our team performs on-site collection
      5. Request documentation or reporting support if needed

Note: Toner and ink cartridges do not count toward the free pickup minimum. To qualify for free pickup, your inventory must include at least 5 qualifying items such as laptops, desktops, servers, networking equipment, monitors, all-in-one PCs, TVs, phones, or tablets. Cartridges can be included in the same pickup but are priced separately by weight.

Option 2: Drop-Off At The Burlingame EcoCenter

The most straightforward option for residents, home offices, and smaller business loads. Bring your cartridges during operating hours — no appointment needed.

Cartridges do not need to be in their original packaging. Loose cartridges are fine; placing them in a box, bag, or bin before arrival makes handling easier. If a cartridge has visible toner residue, keeping it bagged prevents mess during intake.

Why Choose GreenCitizen For Toner And Ink Cartridge Recycling?

Most cartridge disposal options have limitations — store return programs are brand-specific, mail-back programs have quantity caps, and general junk haulers don’t always separate recyclable materials properly. GreenCitizen accepts cartridges across all brands, all formats, and all conditions, and processes them through responsible downstream channels.

A few things that matter to our customers:

      • Transparent pricing. Cartridges are $1.00 per pound. You know the cost before you commit, and there are no surprises at intake.
      • No appointment needed for drop-off. Walk in during business hours with a box, a bag, or a bin. No scheduling required.
      • Mixed loads welcome. Cartridges rarely come in alone. We accept the printers, computers, monitors, and other office electronics that come with them.
      • No brand restrictions. We’re not a manufacturer return program. We accept cartridges across all brands and formats in the same load.
      • Responsible downstream processing. Your cartridges are processed through U.S.-based facilities and not shipped overseas.
