San Bruno Is Building a Greener Future — And Electronics Recycling Is Part of It

Located on the San Francisco Peninsula between South San Francisco and Millbrae, San Bruno is a city of approximately 42,000 residents with a working commercial core and a growing commitment to environmental responsibility.

The city is home to YouTube’s global headquarters at 901 Cherry Avenue — a campus originally built with energy-efficient ventilation and a green roof — along with offices from Google and Walmart. For companies of this profile, responsible end-of-life electronics disposal is part of standard operations, not an afterthought.

On the civic side, San Bruno is actively developing its Climate Action Plan (CAP), which will inventory current greenhouse gas emissions, establish reduction targets for 2030 and 2045, and build community resilience to climate hazards. The plan is designed to meet or exceed California’s statewide goals of reducing GHG emissions 40% below 1990 levels by 2030 and achieving net carbon neutrality by 2045.

Community members have been involved throughout its development through public workshops and surveys.

Waste management is already a priority and holds regular community cleanup and e-waste disposal events. At the state level, California’s Electronic Waste Recycling Act requires proper disposal of devices containing hazardous materials — making certified electronics recycling a legal requirement, not just a good habit.

GreenCitizen Helps San Bruno Businesses and Residents Recycle Smarter

San Bruno is a working city with steady electronics turnover. Laptops get upgraded, office IT fleets get refreshed, and outdated devices accumulate in storage rooms and junk drawers. When those devices aren’t disposed of properly, the lead, mercury, and cadmium inside them become an environmental and public health problem.

GreenCitizen provides reliable, certified computer recycling in San Bruno for businesses and residents who want straightforward, responsible disposal — without having to figure out the logistics themselves.

Since 2005, we’ve helped Bay Area businesses and residents divert tens of millions of pounds of electronics from landfills, with every item tracked and processed locally. Over the years, we’ve operated from various nearby San Bruno locations, including 590 Howard Street, 591 Howard Street, 1541 Sloat Ave, and 1880 Mission Street.

Now, we serve the city from our Burlingame EcoCenter — a short drive up US-101 from our Burlingame EcoCenter.

For businesses, we offer scheduled electronics pickups powered by our proprietary GreenCitizen Total Accountability Management System (GTAMS), which provides full chain-of-custody tracking, certified data destruction, and documentation that holds up under compliance audits. For residents, drop-off at our EcoCenter requires no appointment and is free for qualifying items including laptops and desktops.

In a city actively working toward measurable climate targets, GreenCitizen is the practical partner that helps those commitments show up in real outcomes.

Business Computer Recycling in San Bruno That Keeps Up with Your Operations

San Bruno has a varied commercial landscape. YouTube’s expanding tech campus, Google and Walmart offices, a cluster of hospitality and logistics businesses near San Francisco International Airport, and small and mid-sized businesses along El Camino Real all generate end-of-life electronics that need documented, compliant disposal.

GreenCitizen offers traceable computer recycling for San Bruno businesses — built for organizations that need a clear paper trail, not just a pickup truck. Whether you’re retiring laptops from a tech office on Bayhill Drive, decommissioning servers from a logistics operation near US-101, or clearing out aging IT equipment from a hotel near SFO, we handle collection, data destruction, and processing from start to finish.

Flexible Pickup for Any Operation Size

GreenCitizen offers free pickup for qualifying desktops and laptops, with scheduling that works around your team’s availability. From a handful of devices to a full IT room cleanout, we scale to what you need.

Data Destruction with Documentation

GreenCitizen provides NIST SP 800-88 and DoD 5220.22-M compliant data destruction, with your choice of secure digital erasure or physical hard drive shredding. Every item receives a Certificate of Destruction suitable for internal audits, compliance filings, or ESG reporting.

Full Asset Tracking Through GTAMS

Our GreenCitizen Total Accountability Management System (GTAMS) assigns a unique asset ID to each item we collect, creating a complete record from pickup to final processing. Every device is accounted for — processed domestically, never exported.

R2 and e-Stewards Certified Facilities

All electronics are processed through R2 and e-Stewards certified facilities in the United States. For businesses building out sustainability reporting, our documentation can be integrated directly into CSR disclosures and investor-facing reports.

Supporting San Bruno’s Climate Goals

As San Bruno finalizes its Climate Action Plan with GHG reduction targets for 2030 and 2045, businesses have a direct role to play. Working with a certified local recycler means your electronics disposal produces verifiable results — documented pounds diverted from landfills and data destruction performed under auditable standards.

They were awesome. I was helping clean my mother in laws garage out. There was one tv that was literally falling apart. No problem here. We dropped off a couple tvs, a monitor, coffee machine, an old speaker, all for around 11 dollars. We rounded up to $15 to help them continue their excellent recycling service. They were friendly helpful and have a drive through. We are customers now! Good location as well.
