Inside Los Gatos’ Bold Sustainability and Recycling Efforts
Los Gatos is more than just a picturesque town in the Santa Cruz foothills—it’s a community leading the charge in sustainability. With a population of over 33,000 and a thriving commercial sector fueled by tech, healthcare, and professional services, Los Gatos is setting a gold standard for green living in California.
This eco-conscious city doesn’t just talk about sustainability—it builds it into everyday life. The Los Gatos Sustainability Plan lays out clear strategies to lower carbon emissions and preserve natural resources. Residents are active recyclers, while local businesses embrace green building, renewable energy, and responsible e-waste disposal practices.
Electronics recycling is no exception. Through different recycling programs, the townspeople get e-waste drop-off options to keep harmful materials out of landfills. Residents and businesses alike are increasingly turning to certified services for computer recycling in Los Gatos, especially when it comes to laptops, desktops, and other tech devices.
California’s Electronic Waste Recycling Act further ensures proper disposal of old electronics, making it mandatory to recycle e-waste responsibly. And Los Gatos walks the talk—earning a top spot in solar installations for medium-sized cities, thanks to its early adoption of renewable energy.
Citywide initiatives like Keep Los Gatos Beautiful Month and local Earth Day events show just how committed this town is to environmental leadership. From climate action planning to zero waste goals, Los Gatos is proving that small towns can make a big impact.
In every way, Los Gatos is a model of forward-thinking sustainability—and a standout example of how to manage electronics recycling the right way.

I love that there is a place to recycle electronic items responsibly. No overseas shipments; all are disassembled here and taken care of in an environmentally sound way. The small price they charge is totally worth the environmental impact. It’s not realistic to think there is no cost for safe disposal. Very helpful staff, easy to drive in, safe and fast. I appreciate the data destruction option, too.
Been here multiple times for home and small business. So easy and simple to fill out the form and drop-off isn’t DIY, they come out to your car and take care of everything! Always recommended and candidly, better than my local Scavenger.
I’ve been to GreenCitizen a few times now to drop off old electronics and cables. They’ve been wonderful every time. You simply pull up in your car, someone will come out to help process your drop off. Every time has been less than 10 minutes and very pleasant customer service. Safe, quick, efficient, no hassle. Wonderful.
