Why Campbell Is Leading the Charge in Sustainability and Smart Electronics Recycling
Campbell, California, a vibrant city in the heart of Silicon Valley, is home to approximately 43,000 residents. The city’s economy thrives on industries such as professional, scientific, and technical services, with major employers like ChargePoint, Inc., a leader in EV charging technology, and Barracuda Networks Inc.
Demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, Campbell has undertaken significant sustainability initiatives. In September 2024, the city adopted an Air Quality Ordinance aimed at reducing NOx emissions from appliances and equipment in new constructions and substantial remodels. This ordinance, effective October 3, 2024, encompasses various appliances, promoting cleaner air and a healthier environment.
The city is also developing a Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP), a strategic framework designed to measure and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions while enhancing resilience against climate change impacts. This plan underscores Campbell’s proactive approach to environmental challenges.
In alignment with California’s stringent e-waste recycling laws, Campbell facilitates responsible electronic waste disposal.
Moreover, Campbell’s Planning Division was honored with the 2024 Planning Agency Award of Excellence by the American Planning Association, California Chapter, recognizing the city’s dedication to sustainable urban development.
Through these concerted efforts, Campbell exemplifies leadership in sustainability and responsible e-waste recycling, fostering a greener and more resilient community.
GreenCitizen: Campbell’s Trusted Computer and Electronics Recycling Partner
Campbell might be known for its charming downtown and tight-knit neighborhoods, but behind the small-town vibe is a city making big moves in sustainability. Residents bike to farmers markets. Local businesses prioritize low-waste practices. And when it comes to electronics recycling, Campbell doesn’t mess around. It’s one of Silicon Valley’s unsung heroes leading the charge against e-waste—and doing it the right way.
Since 2005, GreenCitizen has been a proud partner in the Bay Area’s green journey. We’ve helped 70,000+ businesses and over 400,000 residents recycle their electronics responsibly—diverting 32 million pounds of e-waste from landfills. Campbell has played a key role in that impact, proving that sustainability and progress go hand in hand.
Our connection with Campbell runs deep, having served the community through locations at 5155 Stevens Creek Blvd, Ste 100, Santa Clara; 2500 W El Camino Real, Suite D, Mountain View; 4500 El Camino Real, Los Altos; 161 Homer Avenue, Downtown Palo Alto; and 3180 Park Boulevard, Palo Alto (behind the former Fry’s Electronics).
Today, we’re continuing that mission from our flagship EcoCenter at 1831 Old Bayshore Hwy, Suite 2, Burlingame, CA 94010.
Whether you’re recycling an old desktop, a dead laptop, or any gadget with a plug or battery, we’ve got you covered. Campbell businesses can schedule hassle-free pickups, and residents are welcome to drop off electronics anytime. Our GreenCitizen Total Accountability Management System (GTAMS) ensures every device is processed responsibly—never dumped or mishandled. Need certified data destruction? We provide that too, following strict compliance protocols.
Here’s the real win—qualified laptops and desktops are recycled free of charge. So if you’re in Campbell and ready to declutter sustainably, GreenCitizen is your go-to ally for ethical electronics recycling.

I love that there is a place to recycle electronic items responsibly. No overseas shipments; all are disassembled here and taken care of in an environmentally sound way. The small price they charge is totally worth the environmental impact. It’s not realistic to think there is no cost for safe disposal. Very helpful staff, easy to drive in, safe and fast. I appreciate the data destruction option, too.
Been here multiple times for home and small business. So easy and simple to fill out the form and drop-off isn’t DIY, they come out to your car and take care of everything! Always recommended and candidly, better than my local Scavenger.
I’ve been to GreenCitizen a few times now to drop off old electronics and cables. They’ve been wonderful every time. You simply pull up in your car, someone will come out to help process your drop off. Every time has been less than 10 minutes and very pleasant customer service. Safe, quick, efficient, no hassle. Wonderful.
