The electronics manufacturer TCL has managed to win the EPA’s annual Sustainable Materials Management gold-tier award.

The electronics manufacturer TCL has managed to win the EPA’s annual Sustainable Materials Management gold-tier award. This is a difficult award to win once, but TCL has managed to do this three years in a row.

Not only that, but the company has also won the first-ever Special Sustainability Leadership Award through its efforts during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

One of the most innovative ideas that combined clever management and IT systems was a service that allowed consumers to drop off their recyclable electronics at a specific time and place.

The drive-through drop-off made it extremely easy with practically no human interaction when lockdowns were still in place and has stopped tons of electronic waste from ending up in landfills.

Yahoo News has also shared some interesting details about TCL’s future plans.

“TCL will continue to extend its environmental leadership and minimize its footprint through a series of new sustainability initiatives in 2021. Enhanced package labeling techniques, expanded electronics and packaging recycling, and participation in new energy efficiency programs are core components of TCL's goal to create a more sustainable future.”

Having such leadership come from very large companies is a promising sign that an industry known for its pollution might finally be getting its act together.
