FedEx Corp. has announced a big electrification plan as part of a border goal to become carbon-neutral by 2040.
The company is ready to invest more than $2 billion in three key areas: vehicle electrification, sustainable energy, and carbon sequestration.
According to Inside EVs, the multinational delivery service intends to gradually electrify its entire parcel pickup and delivery (PUD) fleet of more than 200,000 vehicles by 2040. “By 2040, the entire FedEx parcel pickup and delivery (PUD) fleet will be zero-emission electric vehicles. This will be accomplished through phased programs to replace existing vehicles. For example, by 2025, 50% of FedEx Express global PUD vehicle purchases will be electric, rising to 100% of all purchases by 2030."
With the progress of electric vehicles, FedEx might even try to accelerate electrification.
For now, we hope FedEx is going to get the first 500 GM’s BrightDrop EV600, starting in 2021.
Much of the whole plan depends on the trial of those 500 electric vehicles, as the company will eventually need tens of thousands of them.

Earlier this year, the USPS announced its plant to update its fleet with more fuel-efficient vehicles, hoping to once again become the nation’s preferred delivery service provider.
