The Canadian government has published its first-ever national climate adaptation strategy, which includes a funding total of C$1.6 billion that will help to protect communities most in danger of the effects of climate change.

Extreme weather is causing huge damage in Canada, and the new funding will go towards funding new flooding and wildfire standards, as well as achieving better urban air quality.

Reuters has published a report that highlighted the main priorities for this new strategy.
statement
“The strategy focuses on five priorities: improving health, building and maintaining resilient public infrastructure, protecting nature and biodiversity, supporting the economy, and reducing the impact of climate-related disasters.”

The funding will bring the total related to different climate and environmental projects to C$8 billion, which is more in the region of what is needed for such a large country facing such significant risks.

It will be interesting to see the first progress reports after this new strategy is formally adopted and the first dollars start flowing into different projects.
