The Netherlands makes plans for building offshore wind farms. The country plans to have a wind farm capacity of 10 gigawatts by 2030.

This March, the Netherlands announced they want to reach their climate goals and stop being dependent on Russian gas by 2030. The country plans to do this by building more offshore wind farms.

According to Reuters, the Netherlands plans to build wind farms with a capacity of 10.7 gigawatts. These will be located in the Dutch part of the North Sea.

The Netherlands already has about 3 gigawatts operational or under construction. They are aiming to have 10 gigawatts in offshore wind energy by 2030.

Green Forests Work’s goal is to reforest the site near Daniel Boone National Forest. The forest was last mined more than 30 years ago and is now mostly barren with some invasive plant species. The nonprofit wants to restore the forest habitat so it can blend in with neighboring – and unmined – woodland.

“The government in January announced it would significantly increase spending on the energy transition and set up a fund of 35 billion euros ($39 billion) to finance projects that would help keep the transformation to a carbon neutral economy on track.”

This additional power will be especially significant for heavy industrial users such as chemical and steel plants. They can switch to more eco-friendly energy sources and use power to produce green hydrogen.

Currently, the Netherlands is one of the EU’s largest greenhouse emissions per capita. This is because they are home to several industries and a large port. Their emissions increased by 2% last year, so let’s hope these new plans will work soon.
