California Governor Gavin Newsom signs a historic $15 billion package that aims to help the climate and protect the Californians from toxins.

Newsom, California Governor, signed a range of legislation on Tuesday, October 5th, such as tackling plastic pollution, supporting a more sustainable economy, and protecting the people of California from toxic chemicals.

According to the Office of Governor Gavin Newsom, he also signed the ban on using misleading recycling labels and more strict measures regarding what’s included in children's products and food packaging.

This is all a part of a historic climate package that includes $270 million for advancing and promoting sustainability.

California’s hallmark is solving problems through innovation, and we’re harnessing that spirit to reduce the waste filling our landfills and generating harmful pollutants driving the climate crisis. With today’s action and bold investments to transform our recycling systems, the state continues to lead the way to a more sustainable and resilient future for the planet and all our communities.

Another significant measure that the Governor signed is that products to be advertised as recyclable, will have to meet a benchmark from now on. This will help California customers clearly know which products can be recycled.

The same goes for products labeled as compostable.

All this will discourage the export of plastic waste and make sure only truly recyclable products count toward the state waste reduction.

Moreover, the new regulations prohibit perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in food packaging, so Californians will be less exposed to toxins.
