Dublin, the capital of the Republic Of Ireland, has become the first capital city in the world to have a zero-emissions postal delivery service working in its city center.
Dublin, the capital of the Republic Of Ireland, has become the first capital city in the world to have a zero-emissions postal delivery service working in its city center.
An Post, the Irish postal service, has rolled out 47 electric trucks for central deliveries, making Dublin city center into a “Green Delivery Zone.” The plan is to roll this out to other Irish cities like Cork, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick and Waterford by the end of 2020.
An Post chief executive David McRedmond tells The Irish Times:
“We’ve proven that zero-carbon emission delivery in a capital city is achievable. If An Post can do this, delivering to more than 70,000 premises daily in this area, there is no reason why other companies can’t. Let’s aim for a 100 per cent green delivery zone in Dublin.
By 2025, An Post plans to remove 50% from all their postal and delivery operations in Ireland.
I mean, what can I really say about this? It’s great!
It’s nice to see Ireland paving the way for green postal services to come. They’ve proved it’s possible.
