US startup Aptera has premiered a solar electric vehicle that can travel up to 1,000 miles on a full battery, which most drivers won't need to charge at all.
According to Dezeen, the new car prototype from Aptera is powered by a combination of solar and electric energy called Never Charge technology.
In the company, they say that the average American drives 29 miles per day, so it's likely that most owners will never have to charge Aptera.
“Measuring at 4.4 meters long, 2.2 meters wide and 1.4 meters high, the three-wheeled Aptera vehicle can accommodate two adults and a pet, according to the company. While the car can be fully charged via a charging station or cord, when drivers are out on the road during daytime, solar energy from the sun will keep the vehicle topped up.”
The solar technology used in this car can store enough sunlight for driving over 11,000 miles per year in most regions.
The company website features a calculator that enables people to enter their location and their daily mileage to determine how many times a year they will need to charge their car.
Planned for production in 2021, the car is able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 110 mph.
Not bad for the free propulsion.
