Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery has hauled this city’s waste since the 1930s, and its position on electronics is short. TVs, computers, tablets, and phones stay out of the carts. MDRR will send a separate truck for e-waste for a fee, arranged by the property owner or manager. Failing that, its guidance points to retail take-back at Best Buy, Apple, or Staples.
That advice breaks down fast for an office. Best Buy caps drop-off at three items per household per day, and the program is written for residents — equipment from businesses and organizations is refused at the counter. Concord’s default answer for its own businesses is an answer those counters aren’t permitted to give.
The county route closes off too. Central San’s hazardous waste facility on Imhoff Place accepts paint, cleaners, and automotive products from Concord addresses. It doesn’t take e-waste at all.
None of those options ask what was on the drives, either. A hauler moving a pallet of workstations for a flat fee isn’t in the chain-of-custody business, and for retired IT equipment that gap matters more than the disposal itself.

You can book a Business Recycling Pickup. All you need to do is fill out the form and set a pickup date. We can even arrange immediate (within 24-hours) or same-day (must be confirmed before 11:00 AM) pickups for emergency cases.Â

What makes a load qualify. Pickup is free at five or more qualifying items. Desktops, laptops, servers, monitors, networking gear, printers, and phones all count toward that. A few categories carry handling fees regardless of load size; we’ll tell you which before the truck is scheduled, not after it arrives.
What we handle at the site. Unplugging, stacking, and carrying are ours. You don’t need to pre-sort by type, strip rack gear, or box anything. If equipment is spread across floors or buildings, say so when you call — that changes crew size, not price.
What we need from you. An inventory if you have one, and a decision on data destruction: software wiping or physical destruction. Drives are handled to NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 1, with DoD 5220.22-M available where a contract still names it. A Certificate of Destruction can be issued for your records, matched to the AGTAMS IDs logged at intake.

Two laptops and a drive don’t need a truck. Our nationwide mail-in program takes computers, drives, and networking gear shipped straight to the EcoCenter, with the same intake tracking and the same data destruction options as a pickup.
It’s also the better route when the equipment is spread across several sites, or when a remote employee is returning a machine directly. Ask us for packing guidance before you seal anything — how a drive is packed affects whether it arrives testable.
