Certified Data Destruction, Item-Level Tracking, And Secure Hard Drive Recycling

Protecting your sensitive data is our top priority. GreenCitizen follows the exact methods for data destruction specified by NIST (NIST SP 800-88) and DoD (DoD 5220.22-M) guidelines.

    • R2-aligned recycling standards
    • GTAMS (GreenCitizen Total Accountability Management System) asset tracking
    • Certificate of Destruction available

Hard Drive Data Destruction Pricing & Methods

    • Data Erasure (Software Wipe) – $5.00 / Drive: Secure, NIST-compliant data overwrite (wiping) for functional hard drives and storage devices. Ensure your data is permanently erased while allowing the drive to be sustainably reused.
    • Physical Drive Destruction (Shredding/Punching) – $20.00 / Drive: Secure physical destruction of hard drives and solid-state media using industrial pneumatic presses. This punches a physical hole through the drive platters and flash memory chips, rendering data recovery impossible.
    • Certificate of Destruction – $5.00 / Unit: Added service for businesses needing verifiable documentation for compliance and internal audits.

What Hard Drive Recycling Options Are Available at GreenCitizen?

Option 1: Business Recycling Pickup

This option is designed for organizations retiring storage devices during IT refreshes, server replacements, office relocations, storage-room cleanouts, decommissioning projects, and other business electronics recycling events.

To schedule a pickup, complete the pickup request form and share your estimated quantity, drive types, and requested service level. If you need data erasure, physical destruction, Certificates of Destruction, or serialized reporting, include those details when submitting the request.

For pickup, items must be staged at a loading dock, ground-level area, or elevator-accessible location. GreenCitizen does not provide floor-to-floor removal.

Option 2: Hard Drive Drop-Off At Our Burlingame EcoCenter

Businesses and residents can drop off hard drives and related storage media at our Burlingame EcoCenter during regular business hours. No appointment is required. Completing the drop-off form in advance can help speed up intake.

Drop-Off Hours:

Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM; (closed on weekends and major holidays)

Drop-Off Location:

GreenCitizen, Inc.

1831 Old Bayshore Hwy, Suite 2, Burlingame, CA 94010

Option 3: Mail-In Hard Drive Recycling (For Outside The Bay Area)

If you are outside the Bay Area, you can still use GreenCitizen’s hard drive recycling and data destruction services through our mail-in option. This is a practical choice for customers who do not have access to local drop-off and still want a structured recycling and destruction process.

Before shipping, package your hard drives securely and clearly indicate whether you want data erasure, physical destruction, or documentation services.

What Types Of Hard Drives And Storage Media Do We Accept?
